Petrol Price in Iran Today (September 2026)
Iran sells petrol at three price levels depending on how much you buy each month. Here is each level in rials, tomans and Pakistani rupees, explained simply.

How Iran’s Petrol Quota System Works
Iran has used fuel rationing since 2007. Every private car receives a monthly allowance of subsidised petrol, loaded onto a fuel card. Today the first 60 litres cost 15,000 rials a litre, the next 50 litres cost 30,000 rials, and anything beyond that is charged at the highest rate.
The government keeps prices far below the real cost of producing fuel. In August 2026, Iran’s president said the state pays around 1.3 million rials for each litre refineries produce, while the cheapest quota sells for 15,000 rials. Price rises are politically sensitive: a hike in November 2019 led to nationwide protests, which is why the latest increase only touched the highest tier.

Iran vs Pakistan: Why It Matters
Iranian petrol is roughly 100 times cheaper than Pakistan’s price of around Rs 390 a litre. That huge gap is why Iranian fuel is often smuggled across the border into Pakistan, especially Balochistan, and into Afghanistan. Iranian authorities have run anti-smuggling operations, but the problem continues.
