Quick answer: Petrol in Nepal costs Rs 200 per litre in Kathmandu (about ₹125 or Rs 364 in Pakistani rupees). Border towns like Biratnagar and Birgunj pay Rs 197.50. Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) sets one price for each of its three zones.
NOC divides Nepal into three price zones. Kathmandu is in the highest zone because fuel has to travel the farthest from the border depots.

| NOC zone | Cities | Petrol | Diesel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zone 3 | Kathmandu Valley, Pokhara, Dipayal | Rs 200.00 | Rs 200.00 |
| Zone 2 | Surkhet, Dang | Rs 199.00 | Rs 199.00 |
| Zone 1 | Biratnagar, Birgunj, Janakpur, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, Charali, Amlekhgunj | Rs 197.50 | Rs 197.50 |

The Nepali rupee is fixed to the Indian rupee at NPR 1.60 = ₹1, so the conversion never changes. Just divide the Nepali price by 1.6.
| Nepal (Kathmandu) | India (Delhi) | |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol per litre | Rs 200 = ₹125 | ₹102.12 |
| Diesel per litre | Rs 200 = ₹125 | ₹95.20 |

So petrol in Kathmandu costs about 22% more than in Delhi, and diesel about 31% more. Nepal buys its fuel from India and then adds transport and its own taxes. See our petrol price in India page for more Indian cities.
2026 has been Nepal’s most up-and-down fuel year. Petrol jumped from Rs 156 to a record Rs 219 in under three months when the Middle East conflict pushed world oil prices up (the same shock that hit fuel prices in Pakistan), then came back down to Rs 200.

Right now NOC is taking a loss. On 1 October 2026 it said India’s higher prices would cost it about Rs 3.2 billion every two weeks, but it would not raise pump prices during the festival season. A rise after Dashain and Tihar is possible.

Petrol in Kathmandu costs about Rs 364 a litre in Pakistani rupees, compared with Rs 392.76 in Pakistan (OGRA rate, 3 October 2026). That makes petrol in Nepal about 7% cheaper. Diesel is about Rs 364 in Nepal against Rs 399.64 in Pakistan.
Both countries depend on imported oil, so the gap comes mostly from taxes, levies and exchange rates. See today’s petrol price in Pakistan, crude oil prices, or compare more countries such as Bangladesh on our international fuel prices page.
