Shop prices can still be a little different. On 5 October 2026, market selling quotes reported by Daily Pakistan were about Rs 437,000 in Lahore and Rs 438,000 in Karachi. The gap comes from the dealer’s own margin, not a different city rate.

People often get confused here, so let’s keep it simple.
24K is the purest gold, but it is soft, so it is rarely used for daily jewellery. Jewellers mix it with small amounts of silver or copper to make it stronger. The karat number tells you how much real gold is in the mix, and the hallmark stamp inside the piece shows it in numbers.
| Karat | Purity | Stamp | Per Tola | Best For |
| 24K | 99.9% | 999 | 437,536 | Bars, coins, saving |
| 22K | 91.6% | 916 | 401,075 | Bridal & gift jewellery |
| 21K | 87.5% | 875 | 382,844 | Everyday jewellery |
| 18K | 75% | 750 | 328,152 | Light, stone-set jewellery |
Simple rule of thumb:
The higher the karat, the higher the price and the softer the metal. If you are buying gold only to save money, 24K bars or coins make sense. For jewellery you will wear every day, 22K or 21K holds up better and costs less.
